Kaiawhina Health Support Worker

We are looking for a Kaiāwhina Health Support Worker (KHSW) who will be part of the urgent care team and will support the delivery of quality healthcare to whānau. The KHSW will have the responsibility to create an atmosphere/culture within the Whanganui Accident & Medical (WAM) waiting room area, which aligns to WAM values by ensuring people feel that they have been welcomed into the clinic (rather than processed) in a friendly, sympathetic, professional and culturally appropriate manner.  You will work alongside the WAM triage nurse as the first point of contact for whānau into WAM and will contribute to the cultural safety of people while receiving reception and health care support services.

 

This is a permanent position, with the options of 20-40 hours per week. The role involves administrative duties, including registering patients, responding to information requests and clinical support during consultations with whānau. Other duties may include cleaning, ordering and stocking, recalling patients/whānau for appointments and a variety of other clinical duties. So being organised and able to manage competing demands is essential.

 

This role is a great opportunity for someone thinking about a career as a health professional. Previous experience in a clinical environment is an advantage, as is a great attitude and willingness to learn. Computer literacy is a prerequisite.

Nurse Practitioner

An enticing opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Prescriber to join our caring and friendly team at Whanganui Accident and Medical (WAM). WAM is an ACC accredited and certified facility with the RNZCUC. 

This is a permanent full-time or part-time position designed to provide an urgent care and after-hours medical service to the Whanganui community, covering a wide a range of acute minor injury and illness. The clinic operates a daily service, 8am to 9pm, with weekends and public holidays included.

You will be working alongside a friendly and supportive team of doctors and nurses, who value a culture based on mutual respect and professionalism and strive to achieve equity in health outcomes. This position will include training and development opportunities, including upskilling to an urgent care scope.
