Health Improvement Practitioner

Wicksteed Medical LP is an established general practice located in Whanganui central, committed to providing quality care and continuity of care, to all our patients in a way that is equitable, and in an environment that is warm, friendly and accessible to our community.

The Health Improvement Practitioner will work as part of our team, as well as Impilo and St John’s Medical.

Ideally you will have completed your HiP training, if not we are able to provide training. Prior experience in general practice or mental health nursing will be an advantage.

The position is part time, 20 hours per week, with usual days of work being Monday to Wednesday.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • provides rapid access to evidence-based brief interventions.

  • building the confidence and capability of the general practice team

  • within an integrated, stepped care model.

  • support the practice in improving population wellbeing, preventing poor mental health outcomes, and addressing inequities in health outcomes for Māori and other vulnerable populations. 

  • will be working closely with other Health Improvement Practitioners, Health Coaches, community roles and the WRHN Programme Lead to refine the services delivered to the local community context.

 

Ideally the successful applicant will:

  • Registered health professional with current practising certificate e.g. psychologist, nurse, occupational therapist, social worker.

  • Have received (or be prepared to successfully complete) HIP training delivered by an accredited trainer.

  • Skills in building therapeutic rapport with patients from a diverse range of backgrounds.

  • Experience working with Māori, Pasifika and Youth.

  • COVID 19 vaccination course completed.

  • Current clean, NZ full driver’s licence.

  • Current NZRC Core Immediate
