Our organisation contracts local Podiatrist Leo Brown to provide podiatry clinics for diabetic patients. Referral are made by a general practitioner, are free for those who meet the criteria and have foot problems requiring the attention of a specialist.
The three goals are:
To assess the risk of foot complications, like ulcers and infection
To inform patients about how risk occurs
To actively reduce risk via podiatry treatment, guiding through advice and referral to other services as needed
Routine podiatry care or product outside of these criteria will not be funded and patients may be discharged however assistance in finding other service providers or funding will be provided to the clients of required.
Clinics are run by Whanganui Foot Clinic, 35 Guyton Street. Rural clinics are held at Ratana Health Centre, Rangitikei Health Centre, Taihape Health Ltd, Abbotsford House - Waverley and Waimarino Health Centre.
To find out if you are eligible, please see your GP who will be able to submit a referral in your behalf.
