Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
New Zealand has declared that Whooping Cough is now an epidemic.
Whooping cough is highly contagious and spreads quickly. It is particularly dangerous to the young and the elderly. Vaccinations can be given to 6week old babies and older. To protect newborns up to 6 weeks, the hapu mama (pregnant woman) should be immunised whilst still pregnant. Families can help protect the young and the old be being immunised, which will help stop the spread.
See your GP or come and see us to make sure you and your mokopuna are up to date with their vaccinations
