About Us
Whanganui Regional Health Network (WRHN) is a charitable trust committed to improving primary and community health outcomes for our enrolled population of approximately 45,000 people. Working in partnership with a network of nine general practices and multiple iwi, our mahi is rooted in achieving equity, guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the aspirations of Pae Ora – Healthy Futures.
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to guide and support the cultural development of WRHN and its subsidiaries. This pivotal role strengthens our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensures equitable health outcomes for Māori, and enhances cultural safety across our organisation.
As Pou Tikanga, you will work closely with the Pou Whakahaere and leadership teams to embed tikanga Māori, support Māori workforce development, advise on best cultural practices, and ensure all WRHN teams understand and uphold their obligations under the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide cultural leadership and tikanga guidance across WRHN and subsidiaries.
• Build cultural competence within WRHN and its subsidiaries
• Collaborate with iwi within the Te Ranga Tupua boundaries to co-design culturally appropriate health services.
• Deliver training, coaching and support to improve equity outcomes and address systemic barriers for Māori.
• Champion WRHN’s obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Pae Ora Act.
• Support the Māori workforce and cultivate a culturally safe and supportive workplace.
• Strengthen relationships with iwi leaders, kaumatua, and Pasifika communities.
• Represent WRHN in forums and collaborate with Pou Tikanga from other organisations.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
• Endorsed by WRHN Māori Board members and Equity Kōmiti.
• Fluent in te reo Māori and proficient in tikanga and kawa.
• An effective communicator and respected team member, able to inspire trust and confidence.
• Skilled in writing workplans, reports and contributing to strategic development.
• Known for integrity, reliability, diplomacy, and honourable conduct.
• Passionate about health equity and the aspirations of Māori communities.
• Confident in navigating both ea o Māori and ea o Pākehā spaces.
