Nurse Practitioner

Applications close: November 17th

Nurse Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Practitioner to join our friendly and compassionate team at Whanganui Accident and Medical (WAM) – a leading urgent and primary care provider committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our local community.

About Us:
WAM is a subsidiary of the Whanganui Regional Health Network (WRHN), established in 2003 to enhance community access to urgent and after-hours healthcare. Situated on the Whanganui Hospital campus, right alongside the Emergency Department (ED), WAM plays a vital role in creating a ‘one-stop shop’ for urgent medical needs.

We provide urgent and primary care services from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, including public holidays, in a well-supported, collaborative environment.

The Role:
As a Nurse Practitioner with WAM, you’ll be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, working to provide high-quality, timely, and culturally responsive care to patients across a wide range of presentations. You’ll work autonomously within your scope, while collaborating closely with doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals. Flexible rostered rotating shifts and hours negotiable.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Nurse Practitioner

  • Has urgent or primary care experience (preferred)

  • Is confident in clinical decision-making and diagnostics

  • Demonstrates a compassionate, patient-centred approach to care

  • Thrives in a team-oriented environment and is committed to health equity

  • Has excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

  • Embraces continuous improvement, cultural safety, and community-focused healthcare

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a modern facility co-located with the ED, enhancing collaboration and patient outcomes

  • Be part of a supportive and inclusive team that values your expertise

  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements – full-time and part-time considered

  • Contribute to a service with real impact in the Whanganui community

  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and growth

Whether you’re seeking a new challenge or returning to the workforce, this is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a supportive, patient-focused environment.
