Improving Access to Healthcare at Ruapehu Health

12 November 2024

At Ruapehu Health, we’re committed to breaking down barriers to healthcare access. Whether you’re in a rural area, facing mobility or transport issues, or have other challenges getting into the practice, our virtual services ensure you can connect with your general practice team wherever you are.

Rural practices can be impacted by their location and staff availability, so with the introduction of virtual clinics we are making healthcare more accessible and flexible. When you contact Ruapehu Health, our nurses will consider your needs and determine if a virtual consultation is the best fit.

If a physical assessment is necessary, the virtual option may include an initial face-to-face assessment with the nurse, so that the GP has a thorough understanding of your condition and you can be seen without the repetition of procedures. This process ensures you receive timely and effective care.

Our team-based approach means you have access to a variety of healthcare professionals within the practice, including the nurses, a counsellor, Health Coach and Health Improvement Practitioner. By also bringing in wider health providers, like the physio, social workers, district nurses and prescribing pharmacist, the patient is offered a wrap-around service.

Accessing the practice through the secure Manage My Health patient portal can also offer you a range of additional services, including ordering repeat prescriptions, viewing your test results and other health records, and messaging our practice team. You can register online at https://managemyhealth.co.nz or visit our reception for assistance.

Ruapehu Health Clinical Services Manager, Tracy Mitchell says, “Feedback received is that the virtual service is great, as people’s needs are being met and the improvement in wait times is appreciated.”

So, if you are new to virtual care or need help navigating Manage My Health, contact the team at Ruapehu Health. Together we are improving access to healthcare, making it easier for you to stay connected and take charge of your health.
