Expression of Interest – Podiatry Service, Whanganui
We are seeking expressions of interest from passionate, community-minded podiatrists who are interested in helping shape and deliver an innovative, equitable podiatry service for the Whanganui region.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a developing primary care model that places whānau at the centre of care, working collaboratively alongside general practice teams and a multidisciplinary network of health professionals to improve health outcomes for our local communities.
About the Opportunity
As the successful provider, you will play a key role in delivering podiatry services across general practices within the Whanganui Regional Health Network (WRHN) Primary Health Organisation (PHO). The service will focus on the assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of people with diabetes and other high-risk foot conditions, with an emphasis on early intervention, prevention, and continuity of care.
The clinical scope includes the management of moderate and high-risk foot presentations, including neuropathy, foot deformity, previous ulceration or amputation, infection, rheumatological conditions, and severe peripheral arterial disease. The service aims to maintain mobility, support recovery following hospital discharge, and reduce the risk of ulceration and lower-limb amputation.
This opportunity provides the ability to establish and grow a private podiatry practice in Whanganui while benefiting from a consistent base of PHO-funded patient referrals, creating a sustainable platform for long-term practice development.
Making a Difference
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of our community, particularly for people experiencing barriers to accessing healthcare.
Working within an equity-focused, low-barrier model of care, you will be supported by a wrap-around team of locally based and whānau-focused health professionals, committed to improving access and outcomes for those who need it most.
A key priority of the service is improving health outcomes for Māori and Pacific peoples, who are disproportionately affected by diabetes and its complications, while often experiencing lower engagement with health services. Through collaborative, culturally responsive care, you will have the opportunity to contribute to reducing inequities and improving quality of life for some of our most vulnerable populations.
